i found this image in 2015 and made it my linkedin and twitter headers. i have not stopped relating to it since.

Hiya Hurdlers,

I’m so buzzing to bring something to life that’s been sat in the corner of my Plans For Hurdling doc for a very long time. As long-time readers of this newsletter will know, I’ve always wanted Hurdling to be a space where I could take a good look at, (and even celebrate) the hurdles that so many of us face in all the different corners of our lives – and even share my own, too.

So as you have likely noticed by the often sporadic cadence in which these posts arrive, one of my biggest hurdles is that I find it so difficult to carve corners of time, energy and concentration outside of my day job to write about the things that matter to me. As most writers will know, taking the time to write means actually taking time away from other things – seeing friends, hanging out with partners and the endless lists of tasks required to maintain a normal, functioning life (and a tidy flat).

Anyway, I figured that I can’t possibly be the only person who struggles with this particular hurdle. So instead of complaining about it, I’ve decided to do something about it for me – and maybe for you, too.

INTRODUCING: THE HURDLING WRITING CLUB

Join us online for a dedicated hour of writing, where the only real aim is to get your words onto the page.

WHAT IS IT?

A very chilled, very fun, very motivating Writing Club to help writers get over their writing hurdles. Join for fun, for focus, for accountability or just for vibes – just think of us like your accountability partner to Finally!!! Write!!! That!!! Thing!!!

WHEN IS IT?

The first Writing Club session will be on Wednesday 14th May at 8am for an hour.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Become a paid subscriber to access the online link. Join the link, accompanied by a piece of writing you’re working on. Together, we’ll work our separate pieces of writing – pursing progress, not perfection.

At the end of the session, writers can spend a bit of time talking through some of the writing hurdles they’re facing (and maybe even get help from other writers to get over them, too).

HOW DO I GET TICKETS?

Becoming a paid subscriber to the Hurdling Substack is your ticket (but you will need to register, too). All the details, including the link to all the online events are at the bottom of this post – which you can access as a paid subscriber.

DO I NEED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL WRITER TO JOIN?

Absolutely not. All kinds of writers are welcome. Maybe you’re a journalist working on your memoir. A copywriter writing a Substack. An author writing a screenplay. A poet writing a play. An English teacher writing erotica. A photographer writing Instagram captions.

To be a writer is to have something to say. As long as you have something you want to write, you’re welcome here.

TO GET YOUR FREE TICKET, BECOME A PAID SUBSCRIBER AND SCROLL DOWN. (The first session will have numbers capped, so do act fast!)
