vibe check #31: too much too soon, my roman empire and is it time for the tree?
a dose of joy and motivation to get you through the week.
vibe check: noun | an act of finding out how someone is feeling or how they make you feel, or what the mood in a particular place or situation is.
Welcome to The Vibe Check – a dose of joy and motivation to get you through the week featuring a (ever-changing) combination of things to read, things to listen to, things to laugh at, things to buy, things I’ve saved over the last week and more.
Hiya. How are things and how are you?
I had such a perfect long weekend (hello, Fridays off). I got my hair done on Friday at Arkive by Adam Reed, thanks to the very kind discount I was given by Luke Colgan – my new London hairdresser (and maybe new unofficial therapist). There aren’t many people who can make staring at your own face for four hours bearable, but Luke really, truly is that person and more.
The rest of the weekend was spent watching our wedding video (we finally had it back!), sorting out some things in the flat that have needed to be sorted for about three months now and attempting to make a case for putting up the Christmas tree. It was rejected. I will try again this weekend. Is yours up yet? Tell me in the comments so I can have more persuasive power.
Anyway, now onto the good stuff. Scroll down for this week’s Vibe Check recommendations, on a mission to deliver a dose of joy and motivation to get you through the week. You’ll see a new category: Things I Saved Last Week, which gives you an insight into what this millennial is scrolling through and sending on Instagram.
Enjoy!
SOMETHING TO READ
This article was a punch in the stomach. It’s about what it’s like when you reach an all-time career high at a young age, and why taking pride in early accomplishments shouldn’t mean forever being defined by the age it happened – or assuming that the best is already over. Read here.
SOMETHING TO LISTEN TO
I’ve recently realised that my Roman Empire is the Titanic. As a child, I was completely fascinated by it. I think my initial hook was that it sank the night before my birthday. I had several books on the topic – one which came with a replica of the blue necklace from the film. I used to stand on the landing outside my bedroom, pretending to drop it from the bannister like the old lady did. I was so cool. Anyway, I listened to all seven episodes of the The Rest Is History podcast on the disaster and it was fascinating – with so many anecdotes, lesser known facts and very emotional stories of love and loss. As they say in the podcast, it sounded like it was actually a really good experience – up until the last two hours. Listen here.
SOMETHING TO BUY
In anticipation of entering round two of attempting to persuade Jonny to let me put up the Christmas tree, I got this very small croissant bauble from Sostrene Grene for £3.15. I think it will help my case. Buy it here.
THINGS I SAVED LAST WEEK
That’s all for now. See you next week!
Em
Too soon for trees and any mention of the C Word! Hohoho
Plenty of time for all that in December!
Nice post!
