vibe check #32: getting joy from strava maps, microdosing retirement and felt crisps
a dose of joy and motivation to get you through the week.
vibe check: noun | an act of finding out how someone is feeling or how they make you feel, or what the mood in a particular place or situation is.
Welcome to The Vibe Check – a dose of joy and motivation to get you through the week featuring a (ever-changing) combination of things to read, things to listen to, things to laugh at, things to buy, things I’ve saved over the last week and more.
Hiya. How are things and how are you?
You will be pleased to know that my second attempt to make a case for putting up the Christmas tree in November was a success. We did it on Monday night this week, with a festive playlist on that included a version of Last Christmas I’d never heard before – by Cascada.
Anyway, now onto the good stuff. Scroll down for this week’s Vibe Check recommendations, on a mission to deliver a dose of joy and motivation to get you through the week.
Enjoy!
SOMETHING TO READ
Sometimes, you need a reason to exercise beyond the fact that it’s good for you. And Duncan McCabe found that extra reason: to create an animated stickman with his Strava maps, who has since become an online sensation. Read here.
SOMETHING ELSE TO READ
Many millennials are discovering that the hustle is not all (we were led to believe) it was cracked up to be. But apparently, a ‘micro retirement’ could be the answer to burnout – taking breaks more often, usually between six months to a year, every few years. It’s a very tempting idea, if you can afford it. Read here, and tell me your thoughts and experiences (if you have them) in the comments below.
SOMETHING TO BUY
Our tree is home to quite the array of baubles – many of which have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. Like a sloth reading a book. Like a scone. Like half a sparkly avocado. Like a palm tree. However, my favourite bauble of all is a felt bag of Salt & Vinegar crisps by Sew Your Soul. All her stuff is amazing. I also love this BabyBel one. And this Laughing Cow one. Ok and this HP Sauce one.
THINGS I SAVED LAST WEEK
That’s all for now. See you next week!

I love the reframing of Strava! I used to find it quite a horrible/triggering app to use because I'd always be comparing myself to everyone, and as a former sufferer with ED and a woman trying to combat enforced body dysmorphia at every turn, like... who needs that really... but 'Strava art' is such a joyful way to reclaim/reframe it!
